OSHA 10 & 30 Hour Course Description and Outlines

The OSHA 10 & 30 hour courses cover General Industry occupational health and safety information (OSHA 29 CFR 1910) as it relates to cleaning, maintenance, grounds and restoration industry workers. The course promotes the importance of hazard and risk assessment, The Global Harmonized System (GHS), administrative controls, work practices, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the implementation of controls to prevent accidents, injuries and toxic exposures that can impact worker health, wellness and performance.

The OSHA Hierarchy of Hazard Control is emphasized as a way to reduce reliance on the use of PPE and instead focus safety efforts on the reduction and or elimination of hazards through more effective means. To successfully complete the course each attendee must demonstrate that they possess the skill, knowledge and awareness to recognize potential hazards and are committed to taking action to prevent accidents and exposures on the job that will save lives and reduce costs by preventing injuries.

Mandatory Subjects - 6 hrs. required

Stone Maintenance Technician (SMT) IICRC Certification Course

Length: 16 hours over two consecutive days, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

This comprehensive "Hands-On" course, covers proper procedures, chemicals and equipment needed to identify, clean, maintain and restore all common types of stone, marble, granite, ceramic, concrete, and terrazzo flooring found in commercial and residential properties. Stone and tile cleaning and maintenance are profitable add-ons for janitorial and carpet cleaning companies. In most areas, billing rates for tile work start at $1.50 per square foot and go to as high as $15.00 to $25.00 per foot for granite restoration. This is income that is available to most cleaners for the asking with new and existing customers.

The course prepares attendees to take the IICRC SMT certification exam on day two of the course. This course involves at least 40% hands on student involvement, come prepared and dressed to clean and polish stone flooring. This course prepares attendees to take the IICRC certification exam, which will be offered at the end of the second day and normally takes one to two hours to complete.

Apprentice/Basic Skills Courses (IICRC)

Length: 4 to 6 hours

These courses provide entry-level training for new hires and those not quite ready for the IICRC's formal 16-hour certification program. These six-hour introductory courses provide attendees with an overview of all the major components of the full certification course in a short and easy to follow abbreviated version. Each course includes a PowerPoint presentation, written handouts and at least 25% hands on participation. A certificate of completion is issued to each attendee who successfully completes an exam during the last hour of the course.

Professional Cleaning Technician Certification Training Programs

This training is offered in multiple formats with a variety of scheduling options based on the needs of each facility. Offered as an online instructor led virtual webinar or an in person, face-to-face seminar.

This course utilizes the "Comprehensive Custodial Training Manual" (CCTM) as the course curriculum. Each student is provided with a copy of this four-chapter manual or one chapter, depending on the length or subject matter focus of the instruction. There are four major chapters to the full course, the sections are offered as a standalone training program for each chapter or as a combined program over a 32-hour course of instruction.

Chapter 1 provides an introduction to professionalism, goals, values, and objectives, office and restroom cleaning, window washing, care of tools, supplies, and motion economy, chemical, equipment and supplies, Chapter 2 covers all types of hard floor care, including resilient, stone and clay tiles, plus wood floors. Hard floor care including stripping, scrubbing, burnishing, polishing and refinishing. Chapter 3 covers all aspects of rug and carpet care. The last section covers special area cleaning including cleaning metal, draperies, elevators, kitchens and hotels. Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) Preparation Workshop

Length: 8 hours

Designed for supervisors, managers and owners or cleaning companies and inhouse custodial operations that wish to prepare for, meet and exceed the requirements of the International Sanitary Supply Association (www.ISSA.com) CIMS certification program. The instructor who is one of 15 ISSA authorized CIMS assessors will walk students through the assessment process explaining how to best prepare the documentation needed for each element of the CIMS program.

CIMS is a management framework that sets forth the processes, procedures and supporting documents and programs that are universally recognized as the hallmarks of a well-run, customer-focused cleaning organization. Enterprises can use the standard and certification to differentiate themselves in the marketplace, improve operations, and validate their commitment to customer satisfaction, while inhouse service provides can use the standard to benchmark and set goals for internal improvement.

CIMS is a powerful tool for distributors, manufacturers and others can use to better understand what it takes to manage a cleaning organization and appreciate the challenges faced by the facility service provide community. To become certified, an organization must undergo a comprehensive assessment by an independent, accredited assessor that includes documentation review, management and employee interviews and customer site visits. This is a program that everyone in the cleaning industry should find out more about. Even if a company doesn't apply for certification, you can download and print out the standard for free and apply as many of the checklist items as you wish in an effort to improve the operation and profitability of your company or department. This is a worthwhile program for all types and sizes of facilities, including but not limited to healthcare, education, government, technology, manufacturing and building service contractors.

Cleaning Schools, Part 2 - Carpet Cleaning & Spotting

This six-hour workshop builds on the initial program outlined above by reviewing the key points and then goes on to deal specifically with the proper procedures that should be followed when cleaning and spotting carpet. Participants learn about carpet fibers, styles, construction methods, and a variety of cleaning methods used commercially to clean carpets. Hands-on practice removing a variety of spots from carpet plays an important role in this skill development workshop.

This six-hour workshop covers all the details, procedures, chemicals, and equipment needed to efficiently maintain all types of floor coverings found in educational facilities. This course covers our standard floor care program, with procedures tailored to the special needs of schools, colleges and universities.

Cleaning Schools, Part 4 - Custodial Supervision and Management

This 6-hour course is for school, college and university leads, head custodians, supervisors and facilities managers and those seeking advancement in the cleaning industry. Managing custodial and maintenance functions in educational facilities requires special skills as well as an understanding of the individual needs of students, teachers, administrators and the public. It's no easy job to meet these needs when enrollment is growing and budgets are shrinking. Successful supervisors and managers must have an understanding of how to encourage their workers to perform consistently at the highest levels of quality and production.

Cleaning Schools, Part 5 - Effective Custodial Management for Site Administrators

This three-hour workshop provides principals, teachers and administrators with the information, understanding and programs they need to effectively manage the custodial function in educational facilities of all types and size.

Cleaning Schools, Part 6 - Safety and Health for School Custodians

This six-hour program provides attendees with the information they need to work more safely on the job. The program is educational, entertaining, and interactive. By the end of the presentation participants will be able to see potentially hazardous situations, understand what causes most injuries on the job and be able to take action to avoid putting themselves in risky situations that frequently cause accidents. Meets State requirements for safety training in the workplace. Chemicals, Indoor Air Quality, blood and airborne pathogen precautions, ladder usage, fire safety and proper lifting procedures are covered.
